Edward Winslow Lincoln Memorial Grove

Completed in 2014, the Memorial Grove was a joint effort between the Friends of Newton Hill and the Worcester Tree Initiative.

As a living memorial, the orchard unites a future that realizes the park’s role in community engagement and development while recognizing and paying tribute to Worcester’s rich history with parks and the man who was largely responsible for their existence.

That man, Edward Winslow Lincoln, was the son of one of the original owners of the land that is now Elm Park and he was chairman of the Park Commission from 1870 until his death in 1896. During his tenure, he was the sole proponent of the city’s purchase of Newton Hill to supplement Elm Park.
